Summary

In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires : - (a) Academic Council means the Academic Council of the University; (b) Appointing Authority means the Founder Society in the case of Chancellor, the Chancellor in the case of Vice Chancellor and Pro Vice Chancellors, Vice Chancellor in the case of Registrar, Directors, Finance Comptroller and other Key Officials; (c) Associated College means any institution recognized by the University and authorized under the provisions of this Act and Statutes of the University to provide for the teaching necessary for admission to a degree of the University. (d) Associations means Association of Indian Universities (MU) and Indian Agricultural University Association (IAUA). (e) Board of Management means the Board of Management of the University; (f) Board of Studies means the Board of Studies of the University; (g) Campus means the unit established or constituted by the University for making arrangements for instruction, or research, or both; (h) The Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor, Pro Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs), Pro Vice Chancellor (Administration), and Registrar mean, respectively, the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor, Pro Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs), Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) and the Registrar of the University; (i) College/School means an academic institution maintained or admitted by the University to, its privileges, and includes an Associated / Constituent College; (j) Constituent College means an institution maintained by the University and named as such by the Statutes. (k) Councils means Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Medical Council of India (MCI) and Nursing Council of India (NCI). (l) Deemed-to-be-University means Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (Deemed-to-be-University), Allahabad which may also be referred as Deemed University. (m) Department means a Department of studies, and includes a center of Studies and Research of the University. (n) Director in relation to an institute of the University means head of such institute. (0) Directorate means various Directorates of the University headed by its concerned Director. (p) Employee means any person duly appointed by the University. (q) Faculty means a Faculty of the University; (r) Finance Comptroller means the Finance Comptroller of the University. (s) Founder Society means the Sam Higginbottom Educational and Charitable Society, Higginbottom House, 4 Agricultural Institute, Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, a Society registered under Society Registration Act, 1860 which is the Apex body managing all activities of the Society including the affairs of the University. (t) Governor means the Governor of Uttar Pradesh; (u) Hall means a unit of residence or of corporate life for the students of the University; (v) Institution means an academic institution, established and maintained by the University; (w) Management Committee in relation to a tollege or an institution, means the managing committee or any other body, by whatever name called, charged with the management of the affair of such college or institution, as the case may be, and recognized as such by the University; (x) Misconduct means such misconduct as may be prescribed. (y) Notification means a notification under this Act published in the Gazette of the State Government of UP.; (z) Prescribed means prescribed by the statutes; (aa) Principal means the head of an institution, school, or college and includes, the person for the time being duly appointed to act as principal, and, in the absence of the principal or acting principal, a Vice Principal duly appointed as such; (ab) Records and Publications means the Records and Publications of the University; (ac) Registrar means the Registrar of the University. (ad) Senate means the Senate of the University established by the Founder Society; (ae) Statutes Ordinances and Regulations means respectively, the Statutes. Ordinances and Regulations of the University made under this Act; (af) Student means a person enrolled in the University under Formal/ Non Formal Education and Distance Education for taking a course of study for a degree, diploma, certificate or other academic distinction duly instituted; (ag) Teacher means a person appointed as teacher by the University for the purpose of imparting instruction or conducting and guiding research or extension programmes. (ah) Treasurer means the, treasurer of the Society who shall be the Treasurer of the University. (ai) University means the Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences, Allahabad Uttar Pradesh established under this Act. (aj) Visitor's means the Visitor of the Univerity, who shall be The Governor of Uttar Pradesh.
