(1) The Vice-Chancellor shall be a whole time salaried officer of the University and shall be appointed by the Chancellor. The Vice-Chancellor shall hold office for a term of five years and renewable for further terms on the recommendation of the Senate up to the age as may be permissible as per norms. In the absence of Vice-Chancellor due to retirement/resignation/illness/leave or any other reason, the Pro ViceChancellor authorised by the Chancellor, shall officiate in his/her place. (2) The Vice-Chancellor shall be the principal executive and academic Head of the University and shall exercise general supervision and control over the affairs of the University and implement the decisions of all the authorities of the University. (3) The Vice-Chancellor may, if he/she is of the opinion that immediate action is called for on any matter exercise any power conferred upon any authority of the University under Statutes, the Rules and Regulations/Byelaws, take such action or proceed to take such action and shall report to the concerned authority on the action taken by him/her on such matters: Provided that if the authority concerned as mentioned in sub-section (3) is of the opinion that such actions ought not to have been taken, it may refer the matter to the Chancellor whose decision thereon shall be final. (4) The Vice-Chancellor shall be the Chairman of the Board of Management, Academic Council, University Finance Committee, Planning and Monitoring Board or any other committees mentioned or not. (5) It shall be the duty of the Vice-Chancellor to ensure that the Statutes, Ordinances, the Rules, Bye-laws and Regulations of the University are duly observed and implemented and he/she shall have all the necessary powers in this regard. (6) The Vice-Chancellor shall exercise such other powers and perform such other functions as may be prescribed or laid down in the Ordinances.
