(1) Any offence punishable under this Act may either before or after the institution of the prosecution be compounded by the Rural Housing Commissioner or by any officer authorized in this behalf by the Rural Housing Commissioner by a general or special order, on such terms as the Rural Housing Commissioner or other officer, as the case may be, thinks fit. (2) Where an offence has been compounded, the offender, if in custody, shall be discharged or acquitted, as the case may be, and no further proceedings shall be taken against him in respect of the offence compounded.
