(1) Offences punishable with imprisonment under section 171-E or section 171-F of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, and offences punishable under section 135 or section 136 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 as applied to elections under this Act by section 48 shall entail disqualification for membership of a 1[Corporation.] (2) The corrupt practices specified in section 78 shall entail disqualification for membership of a Corporation. (3) The period of disqualification shall be five years commencing in the case of disqualification under sub-section (1) from the date of the conviction for the offence and in the case of disqualification under sub-section (2) from the date on which the finding of the District Judge under section 70 takes effect under section 77.
