The main objective of water users’ association is to bring about water users’ participation in water management and also to create among the water users’ a sense of ownership of irrigation system in their area. More specifically, a water users’ association shall:- (i) promote and secure equitable, efficient and timely water distribution; (ii) motivate water users for adopting practices of scientific and economic use of water; (iii) encourage conjunctive use of surface and ground water; (iv) encourage intensified and diversified agricultural production system; and (v) protect environment and ecology.
