(1) If a member or President of the Board dies or resigns or from any cause whatsoever ceases to be a member or President as the case may be, the vacancy so created shall be filled by a fresh election as the case may be, within such period as may be prescribed. (2) The term of a member or President elected or nominated to fill up the vacancy mentioned in sub-section (1) shall be the remainder of term of office of the member or President in whose place he has been so elected or appointed : Provided that in the case of an elected member, if the vacancy is for a period of six months or less, the Board may direct that the vacancy be left unfilled until the next general election.
