266. (1) In any enactment other than the United Provinces District Boards Act, 1922, or the Uttar Pradesh Antarim Zila Parishad Act, 1958, in force on the date immediately preceding the 1[date of commencement of this Act] in a district or any rule, order notification made or issued thereunder and in force on such date in the said district unless a different intention appears - (a) references to the district board of a district shall be construed as references to the 2[Zila Panchayat] of the district and such enactment, rule, order or notification shall apply to the said 2[Zila Panchayat] accordingly ; (b) references to the president or the vice-president of the district board of a district shall be construed as references to the Adhyaksha and Upadhyaksha appointed under this Act ; (c) references to the members of a district board of a district shall be construed as references to the members of the 2[Zila Panchayat] constituted under this Act for that district ; and (d) references to any Chapter or section of the United Provinces District Boards Act, 1922, shall, as far as may be, be construed as references to this Act or its corresponding Chapter or section. 3[(2) On and from the date of commencement of the Uttar Pradesh Panchayat Laws (Amendment) Act, 1994, any reference to the 2[Zila Panchayat], or the 2[Kbshettra Panchayat] in any rules, regulations, bye-laws, statutory instruments, or in any other law for the time being in force, or in any document or proceedings shall be construed as reference respectively to the 1[Zila Panchayat or the Kshettra Panchayat.]
