301. Whenever there is any work in execution in or near to any street on behalf of the 1[Corporation] the 2[Municipal Commissioner] shall take such steps in regard to safety and convenience as he may be required to take under the rules, Whilst any such work as aforesaid or any work which may lawfully be executed in a street is in progress the 2[Municipal Commissioner] may in the manner laid down in rules close the street wholly or partly for traffic or for traffic of any such description as he may deem fit.
