Lawgist1Short title, extent and commencement
(1) This Act may be called the Beedi and Cigar Workers (Conditions of Employment) Act, 1966.
(2) It extends to the whole of India except the State of Jammu and Kashmir*.
(3) It shall come into force in a State on such date1 as the State Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint and different dates may be appointed by the State Government for different areas and for different provisions of this Act.

1. 10th February, 1970, vide notification No.IIE/2-1/70, dated the 9th February, 1970, in respect of section 3, in the State of Orissa.
*. Vide Notification No. S.O. 3912 (E), dated 30th October, 2019, this Act is made applicable to the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the Union territory of Ladakh.
