(1) The Academic Council shall be the principal academic body of the University and, subject to the provisions of this Act, the Statutes and the Ordinances :– (a) shall have the control and general regulation of, and be responsible for the maintenance of standards of instruction, education and research carried on or imparted in the University; (b) may advise the Executive Council on all academic matters including matters relating to examinations conducted by the University; and (c) shall have such powers and duties as may be conferred or imposed upon it by the Statutes. (2) The Academic Council shall consist of the following members, namely :- (i) the Vice-Chancellor; [(ii) the Deans of the Faculties;]18 (iii) all other heads of departments of the University; (iv) all professors of the University who are not head of departments; (v) two retired principals of the King George's Medical College or State Medical Colleges to be selected in the manner prescribed; (vi) five teachers to be selected in the manner prescribed; (vii) the Dean of Students Welfare; (viii) the Librarian of the University; and (ix) five persons of the academic eminence to be co-opted in the manner prescribed.
