(1) The Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint officer of the School Education Department not below the rank of District Education Officer to be the Competent Authority for the purposes of carrying out the provisions of this Act and the rules made thereunder. The different Competent Authorities may be appointed for different areas. (2) The Competent Authority shall exercise such powers and perform such functions, as may be prescribed.
