(1) The 1[State Government] may by notification declare, with respect either to the whole of 2[Uttar Pradesh] or to any local area comprised therein and as regards purchasers, generally or any specified class of purchasers, and generally for any specified occasion, what quantity of any 3[intoxicant] shall, for the purposes of this Act, be the limit of sale by retail. (2) The sale of any 3[intoxicant] in any quantity in excess of such quantity as the 1[State Government] has under sub-section (1) declared to be the limit of sale by retail shall be deemed to be sale by wholesale.
