(1) The State Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette-- (a) declare such places within the territories under its administration as it thinks fit to be places of registry; and (b) appoint registering authorities at the said places for the purposes of this Act. (2) Every person appointed as a registering authority shall, for the purposes of any registration made by him, be deemed to be a public servant within the meaning of the Indian Penal Code (45 of 1860).
