(1) For the overall direction and supervision of the Police Service, the State Government shall appoint a Director General of Police who shall exercise such powers, perform such functions and duties, and have such responsibilities and such authority, as may be prescribed or under the direction issued by the Government. (2) The State Government may appoint one or more Additional Director Generals of Police, and as many Inspectors Generals, Deputy and Assistant Inspector Generals of Police as necessary. (3) The State Government may, by a general or special order either or in consultation with the Director General of Police or on its own direct in what manner and to what extent an Additional Director General or an Inspector General or a Deputy or Assistant Inspector General of Police shall assist and aid the Director General of Police in the performance, exercise and discharge of his functions, powers, duties, and responsibilities.
