(1) This Act may be called the Maharashtra State Commission for Safai Karmacharis Act, 1997. (2) It extends to the whole of the State of Maharashtra. (3) It shall come into force on such date1 as the State Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint. (4) The term of the Commission shall be for a period of five years: Provided that the State Government may, reduce the said term or extend the term of the Commission as deemed proper.
