29Jurisdiction of courts

1[29. Jurisdiction of courts.--(1) Subject to the provisions of sub-section (2), no court inferior to that of a Presidency magistrate or a magistrate of the first class shall try any offence punishable under this Act.

(2) Any magistrate or bench of magistrates empowered, for the time being, to try in a summary way the offence specified in sub-section (1) of section 260 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898 (5 of 1898),may, on application in this behalf being made by the prosecution, try in accordance with the provisions contained in sections 262 to 265 of the said Code any offence which consists of a contravention of an order made under section 8G.]
